Volunteer

We depend on the generosity of volunteers to fulfill our mission. Over the years, volunteers have included individuals, civic and faith-based groups, corporate employees, those in need of service hours, and others.

In a typical year, Metro Changers can receive as many as 500 applications from Birmingham residents in need of assistance. We serve as many as we can — about 125 annually — but we are limited by the number of volunteers we have.

Obviously, the more volunteers we have, the more houses we can repair and in-need Birmingham residents we can serve.

Who can Volunteer?

We have volunteers of all ages (except small children, of course) and we try hard to match the tasks to the group’s skillset and capabilities. Experience isn’t required–you’ll just work alongside others in your group or on our team that have the construction and home-repair skills that are needed.

The only requirement we have is a positive attitude, a caring heart, and a willingness to work. Because our volunteers work hard. They stay busy, and they are tired at the end of the day. But most of our volunteers say it is the most rewarding work they’ve ever done.
